Aerial recommendations for the major TV transmitters

On this page our aerial recommendations are ordered by aerial group.

A group     B group     K group

NOTE :
There are no the C/D, E groups or widebands on this page as technically they have been obsolete from late 2019 / early 2020.

For the full list of the 91 main digital transmitters see 6 MUX Transmitters.

Also see “Which transmitter do I receive my signal from ?”

Aerial recommendations for group A transmitters

Note. Due to Wideband antennas poor response at the bottom of the band nobody should ever fit a “high gain” wideband on any A group transmitter. If the site is in a poor spot an A group aerial should be used. On the other hand if the signal is strong (or medium) then by definition it doesn’t need a “high gain” antenna anyway ! Under those circumstance we would recommend a Yagi 10K.
See “the wrong aerial for Crystal Palace” (or any A group transmitter).
Lastly, an A group aerial will help filter out the high power 4G / 5G transmissions.

Strong to medium signal areas should use a Yagi10K.

Medium signal areas should use a Yagi18K or Log 36.

Weak reception areas should use a Yagi18A or an XB10A (the latter is particularly suitable for in loft installs).

Poorest signal locations should use an XB16A.

Test results for these aerials are on each antennas “buy” page.

Aerial recommendations for group B transmitters

A group B aerial will help filter out the high power 4G / 5G transmissions.

Strong to medium signal areas should use a Yagi10K.

Medium signal areas should use a Yagi18K or Log 36.

Weak reception areas should use a Yagi18B or an XB10B (the latter is particularly suitable for in loft installs) .

Poorest signal locations should use an XB16B.

Aerial recommendations for group K transmitters

Note. Wideband antennas have a relatively poor response at the bottom of the band, so why fit a “high gain” wideband on a K group transmitter ?  If the site really is in a poor spot a high gain K group aerial should be used, e.g. an XB10K or even an XB16K.  On the other hand if the signal is strong (or medium) then by definition it doesn’t need a “high gain” antenna anyway ! Under those circumstance we would recommend a Yagi 10K.

The K group aerials we stock outperform the equivalent wideband up to CH55.

Strong to medium signal areas should use a Yagi10K.

Medium areas should use a Yagi10K or a Log 36.

Weak reception areas should use a Yagi18K or an XB10K (the latter is particularly suitable for in loft installs).

Poorest signal locations should use an XB16K.

Test results for these aerials are on each antennas “buy” page.
