Stocksbridge / Hunshelf Bank OS Grid Ref SK 275 991
Note, as work takes place on various digital transmitters (to prepare for the DSO) you may experience problems, e.g. with certain MUXESdisappearing. First try rescanning your TV / set top box (do it manually if possible), but if this fails to work check on transmitter work or call the reception advice phone numbers. Also see basic digital fault finding. Switchover at Stocksbridge occurred between the 7 and the 14 of Sept 2011.
Stocksbridge television transmitter was constructed in 1980 and it can be seen quite clearly up on Hunshelf Bank, the TV mast is the slim tapered structure at the front. It is a relay (or repeater) off Emley Moor and if one looks closely at it one can see the receiving aerial pointing back at its Main Transmitter. At the top is the array of Log Periodics which are used to rebroadcast the signal into the valley below. As with most repeaters it is Vertically polarised and it puts out 3W in the C/D group. Only MUXES 1 to 3 (the PSBs) are transmitted from Stocksbridge, not all six. It is for this reason that we would tend to put customers onto Emley (or even Belmont or Bilsdale and they`re both about 65 miles away ! ) if at all possible. Generally speaking the further up the hillside you live, the better your chances of getting a decent television signal off Emley, though we have done a number of jobs on Manchester Rd which have worked OK. If one looks at "Transmitter Channel Allocations" you can see that Stocksbridge repeater uses the same frequencies for its 3 channels as Waltham. However you would be very unlucky to suffer any co-channel interference though due to the topography of the area. Apart from anything else there are no houses on Stocksbridge pointing their aerials SE, which is the direction of Waltham. Click here for Stocksbridge transmitter`s radiation pattern.
