Meaning Of Life    (and 3” fence posts........)

After years of pondering philosophy and generally thinking too much (the latter just makes life too complicated.....) I`ve finally concluded that the meaning of life is effort. What I mean by that is putting as much as you can into all areas of your life from work through hobbies and interests to (most important of all ? ) relationships. What this gives you is satisfaction and real self satisfaction can only be generated by your own efforts. Notice how it`s the effort that one puts in that`s ultimately more rewarding than any achievement.
If one could run a marathon in 3 hours flat without a huge amount of work it wouldn`t give
one any significant satisfaction, it`s the effort which is satisfying. Remember when you used to go to night clubs ? (maybe you still do ! ) Do you recall how sometimes you just couldn`t be bothered to start talking to people or having a dance, but if you did put the effort in you`d nearly always have a good time ? It`s the same principal !
You may “only” own a terraced house in Rickmansworth but believe me, if you`ve had to work hard for it, it will make you happier than a lottery winners mansion in Wycombe.
All of the above is just another way of saying what your mother probably used to tell you, “you only get out of anything what you put in to it”, so put as much into it as possible !
So that`s what my Dad / Mum / Teachers (and Scout leader) meant by “just do your best” !
It`s only recently it clicked with me because I`d always thought “just do your best”  was a meaningless thing to say. I thought I always tried. No one wants to come last in the race over the obstacle course, or whatever. But there is a big difference between just “trying” and putting as much effort into it as you possibly can.
Could this philosophy be extended to 1” alloy aerial poles or 3” fence posts ?
I believe it can because doing a quality job is the equivalent of putting more effort in.
Over the years to come you can look at your fence with it`s 4” posts and think “that`s a
good job, it`ll take a hurricane to bring that down......“
